You may have heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Why is this saying so?
Breakfast replenishes your stores of energy and nutrients after waking up from overnight sleep, hence the name. This first meal of the day helps control your appetite, provides steady energy, boosts your brainpower, and is key to general healthy eating habits.
When thinking of what to eat for breakfast, aim to add a protein and a fiber source to your meal. These two nutrients can provide you with more sustained energy. Examples of protein sources include yogurt, eggs, tofu, beans, nuts, nut butter, sausage, and ham. Examples of fiber sources include whole wheat toast, oatmeal, vegetables, berries, and fruits.
