Grits are dried, ground corn usually served as a porridge or side dish. A popular breakfast item, grits are a great grain base for meals and can be sweet or savory.

Directions

  1. Bring water, garlic, onion, margarine, black pepper, and bouillon to a boil in a heavy saucepan over medium high heat.
  2. Slowly whisk in the grits once water is boiling, they will clump if you don't keep whisking!
  3. Reduce heat to low and cook, covered, 20 minutes, stirring once in a while until grits soften.
  4. Remove from heat. Top with cheese and serve.
