Oyster Stuffing

Oyster stuffing is a traditional holiday dish in New England, but it's delicious year-round.

  1. Preheat oven (or toaster oven) to 200 degrees. Place bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes until cubes are completely dried out. Increase oven temperature to 350.
  2. Sort through the oysters very carefully to remove any shell remnants. Roughly chop them.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter or heat oil over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms, onion, and celery and sauté until tender, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the poultry seasoning and stir to combine. Add the bread cubes, oysters, oyster liquid, and broth and gently stir to combine.
  5. Place stuffing in a casserole with a cover. Bake covered in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove cover and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, until top is lightly browned.

Recipe Tips

Optional: Use stuffing mix instead of day old bread.
